Photo and upload problems
File size limits, accepted file types, and what to do when a photo, document or form won't upload.
Updated 11 October 2026
Size limits and file types
| What | Limit | File types |
|---|---|---|
| Job photos | 15MB per photo | JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, HEIC |
| Job documents | 50MB per file | PDF, Word, Excel, TXT, PNG, JPG |
| Form PDF import | 20MB | |
| Engineer certificates | 50MB (20MB for bulk import) | PDF, JPG, PNG (bulk import also takes WEBP) |
| Profile photo | 5MB | PNG, JPEG, WEBP |
| Company logo | 1MB | PNG, SVG, JPEG, WEBP |
Photos are resized automatically before uploading, so a normal phone photo is well within the limit. iPhone HEIC photos are uploaded as they are.
A photo won't upload
Photos you pick are staged first: you can add captions, then tap Upload all. Each photo shows Ready to upload, Uploading…, Done or an error.
- "… is too large. Maximum 15 MB per photo.": take the photo again at a normal size, or choose a smaller image.
- "… is not an image file.": only photos can be added here. Use the Documents tab for PDFs and other files.
- "Upload failed" or "Storage upload failed": usually no signal. Photos that failed stay in the list, so move somewhere with signal and tap Upload all again.
Stay on the page until every photo says Done. Photos waiting to upload are only held on screen. If you leave the page, close the app or refresh, they're lost and you'll need to add them again.
A document won't upload
Documents retry automatically a few times. If one still shows Error, tap Retry once you have signal. Files over 50MB show File exceeds 50 MB and can't be uploaded; compress or split the file.
A form won't save or submit
Save failed — check connection or Submit failed — please try again means the form couldn't reach Engineer OS. Your answers are still on screen as long as you don't leave the page. Get some signal and tap the button again. See Complete a form on site.
Working with poor signal
Engineer OS needs a data connection to save anything: photos, documents, forms, notes, status changes and clocking in or out. On a weak signal, wait until you're back in coverage (often just outside the plant room or building), then retry.
